Overview of 5 Days Rwanda Safari
While on this 5 days Rwanda safari, visitors will be blessed with the views of the big 5 animals in Akagera National Park. Travelers will further indulge in exciting activities especially game drives in the park and boat cruises on the magnificent lake Ihema which will allow them to explore more of the park and set their eyes on a variety of eye-catching creatures.
Travellers on this safari will also have an amazing time in Volcanoes National Park where they will watch the mountain gorillas interact in their natural habitat. Furthermore, visitors will explore the breathtaking Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo that are renowned sightseeing destinations.
Travellers should be rest assured to take beautiful photographs and videos that will remind them of this exciting safari. You will also engage in the golden monkey trekking activity which will make the safari more rewarding.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1. Pick up from airport and transfer to Akagera national park.
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be picked up by a professional guide, who will brief you about the trip you are yet to undertake, then drive to the hotel. At the hotel you will have meals.
After the meals, you will then undertake the journey to Akagera National Park which will take you around 2 hours and 30 minutes covering up to 110 kilometers.
On arrival in the National Park, you will transfer to the lodge premises to relax and enjoy the serenity of the facility. An evening game drive will be conducted.
This will present opportunities to observe a variety of eye-catching animals especially the big 5 alongside other sightings of tiny animals that make the safari more exciting.
The game drive will end at twilight when you will travel back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight rest.
Day 2. Game drive and boat cruise in the afternoon.
Have breakfast at the lodging facility in the wee hours of the morning. Embark on the morning game drive after the delicious meal. The game drive will be conducted by a professional tourist guide who will provide information about all the animals encountered and explanation of the adaptability to this beautiful National Park.
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe the big 5 animals closely. At high noon, you will travel back to the lodge to have a mouth-watering lunch.
An afternoon boat cruise will be conducted on lake Ihema. This will get you acquainted with the views of the lush vegetation in the surroundings of the lake and also spot a variety of animals on the shores.
Enjoy floating on the magnificent lake until sunset. Head back to the lodge in the evening for the evening meals and a night time stay.
Day 3. Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
The guests will have breakfast at crack of dawn at the lodging facility and after check out of the lodge to transfer to Volcanoes National Park. The journey to Volcanoes National Park will consume about four to five hours covering the 213 kilometer distance.
Upon arrival in Volcanoes National Park, you will continue to the lodge to relax and guests will later be served lunch in the afternoon. Relax in the spacious rooms at the lodge as you enjoy the views of the towering volcanoes.
An evening walk will be conducted in the surroundings of the lodge to get the visitors acquainted with the views of the forests, diverse landscapes and the primates within. Head back to the lodge at sunset for dinner and rest overnight stay.
Day 4. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park and Twin lakes tour.
After breakfast in the morning, you will undertake the drive to the headquarters of the park where the travellers will be briefed by the game Rangers about the gorilla trekking activity. At around 8:00am, you will then be accompanied to the forest by the Rangers to go and meet the exciting mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
When the family of the gorilla is met, you will be allowed a maximum of 60 minutes to watch them interact as you observe their behaviors.
Travel back to the lodge in the afternoon to get served lunch. After lunch you will undertake a Twin Lakes tour to the magnificent Burera and Ruhondo craters. A visit to the lakes presents breathtaking views that are good for photography and sightseeing which you will indulge in the entire afternoon.
Head back to the lodge at sunset to get served dinner and rest for the night.
Day 5. Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Kigali.
Have breakfast at sunset at the lodge. After breakfast, you will then undertake the golden monkey trekking activities. These too are usually kickstarted with a briefing by the Rangers who will let you know about the guidelines to follow when on the trek.
The Ranger guides will accompany you to the jungle to ensure that you meet the exciting primates. This activity will take you until midday when you will travel back to the lodge to get served a delicious lunch. After lunch, you’ll check out of the lodge to undertake the drive back to Kigali.
The journey will take you approximately an hour and 47 minutes covering the 78.1 kilometre distance. On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you’ll get on board for the flights back home which will be the end of the safari.
