Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Kigali city tour
After a morning breakfast at your lodge or arrival at the Kigali International Airport, you will meet our professional driver-guide. Upon encountering the Chimps, you will spend one hour in their presence taking pictures. Ensure to follow the chimpanzee trekking rules and regulations strictly. Ask your rangers and guides as many questions as you wish, they are good at their job.
Return to your lodge for relaxation and lunch before taking on an afternoon canopy walk. The canopy walk involves walking on a suspended bridge on top of the forest. It comes with scenic views of the surrounding area and the thickest of the park. This canopy walk is best for bird lovers as it comes with perfect birding photography opportunities. In the later hours of the day, return to your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Kibuye – Lake Kivu
After a morning breakfast at your lodge, check out and embark on the drive to Lake Kivu via Kibuye. This is a journey through Rwanda’s endless rolling hills. It comes with scenic views of the lush green vegetation as well as trading centers. You will have lunch en route and spend the afternoon at leisure upon arrival. In the evening have dinner and spend the night over.

Day 5: Explore Lake Kivu and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After a morning breakfast, you will walk to Lake Kivu for an ultimate sunrise and mid-morning water experience. The waters of Lake Kivu are Bilharzia-free and thus good for swimming. Gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes National Park involves walking the slippery trails and penetrating the impenetrable thickets in search of a particular gorilla family. With the help of a Rwanda gorilla trekking expert guide, you will be able to meet the gorilla family you are trekking. Upon encountering it, you are given one hour to spend in their presence. Make the most of this one hour while following the gorilla trekking rules and regulations.
In the later hours, return to your lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure. You may as well take on a guided nature walk or community tour as you may advise. Have dinner and spend the night over.

Day 7: Golden Monkey trekking in Volcanoes National Park

The activity is more like gorilla trekking but here you are tracking a different primate species – golden monkeys. Golden monkey trekking is somewhat easier compared to the mountain gorilla trekking. It is thus a chance for you to explore the forest to the maximum and discover what you might have missed the previous day.
Return to your lodge for lunch and afternoon at leisure. Depending on time, you may visit the Ibyi’wacu Cultural village for an additional Rwanda experience. This is an opportunity for you to purchase some crafts as a way of giving back to the community. Have dinner and spend the night over.
