Lake Mburo National Park in Uganda is home to a variety of wildlife, including a population of giraffes. Here are some fun facts about giraffes in that region.
Unlike many other national parks in Uganda that are characterized by dense forests, Lake Mburo offers a mix of open savannah and acacia woodland. Giraffes thrive in these habitats as they can easily browse on the leaves of tall trees.In Lake Mburo, giraffes primarily feed on acacia leaves and other tree foliage. Their long tongues, which can measure up to 18 inches, help them grasp and pull leaves from branches.
Giraffes have a unique way of walking called “pacing,” where they move both legs on one side of their body and then both legs on the other side. This distinctive gait helps them cover large distances efficiently.
In Lake Mburo National Park, giraffes coexist with a variety of other wildlife, including zebras, buffalos, and several antelope species, creating a diverse ecosystem.
